The relaxed fishing and surfing village of Kommetjie is located between the metropolis of Cape Town and the famous Cape of Good Hope. Nestled on the Atlantic coast with its long sandy beach, the famous Long Beach it’s the perfect holiday spot.
One of the highlights of Kommetjie is the lighthouse built in 1919 with a beautiful view of the Atlantic and the Cape Peninsula. The highest cast iron lighthouse (100 feet, approx. 30 meters) in South Africa is available for visits every day (Mon-Fri) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Just follow the small path from Long Beach westwards past the beautiful beach houses on the left and the surfers on the right. The path leads partly over stones and wooden walkways and is perfect for an afternoon stroll.
The small but fine community market takes place every 2nd Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers a selection of handmade clothing, as well as organically grown, vegan and gluten-free foods.
Restaurants & Cafés
The charming little cafe “Espresso.kom” is only a 15min walk from our accommodation and does not only serve the best espresso in town but also a fabulous breakfast.
Have you ever had breakfast in a garden center surrounded by wonderfully fragrant flowers? The well hidden Cafe “The Wild Camphor” in Harry Goemans Garden Center is only a 5 minute drive away.
And right across the street is the Peach Pip farmstall, where you can not only buy fresh local food, but also have a fantastic breakfast.
The waffles are especially recommended 😉
For dinner there are various restaurants in the center (15 minutes’ walk) to choose from. The Lighthouse Pub & Grill serves great burgers and has specials almost every day. Fisherman’s is right across the street with a large outdoor area and every Sunday they have a braai and live music.
If you prefer to eat at home, Kommetjie Pizzeria delivers fabulous pizza directly to your home at affordable prices. Tested by us (many times) and rated as very good! 😉
